Re-claiming Bank Charges from RBS or BANK OF SCOTLAND

Options
Hi there

My sister had a current account with both of the above from 1997-2002, during this time she has clocked up a whooping £3000 in charges from RBS and £2000 from Bank Of Scotland!!!!!!

We only became aware of this as she is trying to repair her credit history to obtain a mortgage and we ordered copies of her bank statements right back to when they were opened.

She has asked me about re-claiming them. I have read on this website that it's usually 5 years for Scotland but it seems some people have had charges older than that refunded especially if they are in financial hardship which I believe she def meet the criteria for.

Clearly she was also in financial hardship at the time also.

Is it worth trying to claim some of these charges back from so long ago, she just sat and cried when we totalled it up and found out how much she had paid in charges. She knows she should not have run up an overdraft but the charges didn't help the situation atall.

Has anyone had luck claiming further back that 5 years and can she use financial hardship now relating to charges for that time.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

It's a long shot.
