stupid/simple questions about other banks

Hello - I want to open up an account with another bank simply for another debit card and spread about my savings (I am already with halifax and nationwide) - I'm not interested in overdrafts/morgages or any of that. I know very little about banks hense the stupids questions:
1. Is there a bank that I can register online without the fuss of having to go into a local branch?
2. As I said I am only interested in a card cash account and a saving account - will there be any sort of fees that I have to pay?
Thankyou in advance

Most banks & building society's do not need you to go into branch to register to name some examples, LLoyds TSB, Halifax, BOS, Barclays, Nationwide, Nat West..
Nope just stick within the Ts & Cs of the account = no fees. Can I find out my credit score? You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)0 -

You open the account (on-line) first. If your identity is traceable electronically, that should be quite straight-forward. Otherwise the bank might ask for additional identification.
Once the account has been opened, you receive account number and log-in details (by mail). Using those details, you set up on-line access.0 -
If you apply for accounts with banks without branches you can be sure that you won't be asked to visit one. Customer service is also more highly rated for some of these than branch based accounts. e.g. First Direct (HSBC group) Smile (Co-op group).
No fees with First Direct if you keep £1 in the Everyday eSaver account and they are paying £125 incentive to join via moneysupermarket.com at present. (subject to conditions)

I don't know about fees for Smile. No doubt the information is on its web site.0
