NEVER cancel your paper statements from nationwide

this may already be mentioned lots on this forum, (and luckily i had the mistrust to never cancel my paper statements) but i have a story like this
1. was sent a new nationwide credit card. from a quick read of the T&Cs it was worth than my last one
2. the old credit card i was using one day stopped working as they must have cancelled it
3. try to download all my credit card statements as .pdfs for this years accounts (naively i thought that because i did this last year no problem somehow that means i could do it this year).
4. incredible stress and frustration and angry phone calls as the web designers (more like cowboys) that made their site have decided that if you get a new credit card, you would never want to be able to see all your old statements.

luckily i have them in paper but at my registered cardholders address (a.k.a my parents house) so a night of train journeys, photocopying, and recorded delivery to my accountants house awaits me.

word of warning
a) dont use nationwide credit card
b) if you do, make sure you download your statement every month just in case the powers that be send you a new card in the post.

Strange, I cancelled my card last year, but I can still access my CC statements from 2006. I downloaded a couple last week searching for a transaction, but quickly got bored as it takes an absolute age to retrieve PDFs and you can't seem to recover them in a more sane format like text, so I gave up.

Strange#2.

I got told I was getting a new card and a side effect would be that I would lose access to my online statements. So I downloaded all the PDFs last week and despite being on the other side of the world (and it still being daytime in the UK) it was really fast. BUT, when I tried to do the same thing a few months ago before the website redesign, it was painfully slow.

Just to confirm, my gold card and my online statement archive have now disappeared. Only the "select" card is showing.

I haven't actually received the "select" card yet.

its an absolute disgrace. luckily i didn't have a green conscience a year and a half ago so i never cancelled my paper statements. after wasting an hour and a half of my time going through all my paper statements for all my accounts in a drawer (i never use them thus the mess!) i have managed to gather all the 12 months i need. that means i have the joy of the same thing next year. incompetence doesnt even describe this!

and after sending an email complaint through the website i got a voicemail from someone asking me to call them back on their 0845 number. its really win-win for them isnt it!
