In my opinion they are for different things.... tablets are great for browsing on the sofa or the train, checking your bank balance etc but I wouldn't really want to type out a 50 page Word document on one nor does it have the ability to run the "professional" photo editing software I use.
I will get a tablet when if the next generation of iPad is the predicted higher resolution and I expect to use it a lot as I did my work one whilst commuting etc but I am certainly not considering ditching the laptop.0 -
If you use a laptop for browsing and basic stuff then yes you could swap it for a tablet, especially something like the asus epad transformer. But for anything more serious, no chance, at least not for a while. Android is ok but a long way off as being useful for serious use. Even the iPad is extremely limited.
Be interesting to see what happens when windows 8 comes out, they will be the ones who take the tablet forward to be a serious contender to laptops and pcsMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

still can't see this for a looong while..had a play with the W8 pre-beta over xmas....it was awful. I really don't like the whole "tablet" layout anyway (it's all too iThing for me), and it was particularly awful on a proper-sized lappy screen

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
