just had my renewal through and they've increased it by £125 since last year. On discussion with them, they seem to think that my high price (last year just over £520 now to go up to just over £640 is because I have chosen 'unlimited' as the cover value for the contents side of things. They recommended £50k - we're 2 people in a 3 bed house.
My questions are this..
Can anyone recommend any decent companys?
What do others think is a 'reasonable' figure to cover contents for? I just feel that if EVERYTHING was lost and we had to replace the lot - from clothing and cooking items to dvds, cds, furniture etc. it would come to over £50k. (Counted the dvds we own and that came to over 600 which at £7 each for replacement would be over £4,200 on it's own!)

I see £40-50k to be about the average. It can be as little as £15k or as much as £300k though.0

If you spend a while getting a more precise sum insured you will get a more precise quote.0 -
Nobody can give you a price as its dependent on where your house is, your ages, no claims etc etc.
One of the companies i use even ask what type of locks you have on the doors/windows.
You should probably speak to a broker. £640 does seem to be a little on the higher side. In saying that though i dont really do that much B&C insurance myself but i would be thinking closer to what your initial price was, but like i said it depends on so many factors.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
