Car insurance with occasional business use - help required

Hi,

I have recently been asked by my company to make sure that I have occasional business use added to my Car Insurance Policy.
Luckily I have to renew my car insurance in early Feb, so though I would compare companies on Confused.com.

I just want to make sure that I select the correct cover. There is a pull down box on the site, (see below screen capture), that has a few options.

Previously I have always selected "Social and Commuting".

But now I need to add occasional business use onto it and just want to make sure that I should just select "Business use by you" option
and that by doing this it will cover me for the small amount of Business driving I will do AND also still cover me for "Social and Commuting".

As you can see from the help flyout, (that gives an explanation of the various types of cover), it does not state that the "Business use by you"
still covers "Social and Commuting".

Could someone confirm that it would still cover me for "Social and Commuting" too.

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Business use will cover you for commuting and social.

But you need business cover for your employer's business (not "your business")!
  • It covers both hence why you have the two sliders, one for your total mileage and the other for business, the net of the two is your social/ commuting etc

Don't forget that the extra cost of business cover over non-business cover may be an allowable expense on your tax return.

Thanks for all the replies, I will select the "Business use by you"option.

Quentin, I think the help text is a bit miss leading and when it states " Business use by you covers your business driving away from the normal place of work"
it does not mean my business, I think it means a business in general. Well I hope it does!
  • It is still your business even if it isnt your company

I actually found my quotes were lower for business cover than without it, does that mean I owe the tax man money????
