In the market for a digital camera which isnt as big as the brick we have had for ten years now.

Ive narrowed it down to the Canon Ixus 115 or 220 as they are on at a very reasonable price on Jessops site but I cant see the difference in them even when I read the comparison notes. Or should I go for the powershot?

Total numpty with cameras, so be grateful for advice on a simple, cheapish camera for us senior citizens - thanks

  • The 220 has a 5x zoom rather than the 4x than the 115.... in reality the 220 starts a little wider and zooms in a little more but the trick of making it wider is why the marketing spin Ax number is 25% more. The 115 on the other hand has a slightly larger screen (2.7" -v- 3.0")

On paper they otherwise seem very similar but of cause canon could intentionally limit lower models to be able to increase sales of the higher spec ones. Dont know that they do it in the Ixus range but they have done it on the dSLRs before.

We have an ixus as our pocket camera, it is good but not amazing. The one thing we have found is that the paint comes off the front fairly easily and so a case is a good idea. That said, it has survived the wifes frequent droppings etc longer than any other none SLR that we've had with only paint missing to show for it.

I'm a great fan of canon (particularly the old slr's from the 80's & 90's but that's another story). My wife had a couple of ixus models over the years but recently switched to a similarly priced panasonic lumix. Pictures are much better - not much difference in ease of use - panasonics a bit bigger to carry.

    good luck

Have a look on expertreviews.co.uk on there they review cameras but importantly they list battery life,340 shots for The Panasonic Lumix TZ18, my final choice,(after much comparison),i am very pleased with it. The zoom range is huge 24-384mm.Jessops are selling this for under 150GBP after the £25 cashback. Up till 15th Jan so be quick if you are interested. If you go via Quidco and do the collect at store you will save another 8 bringing the price down to 138, i bought a spare battery and the recommended memory card on Amazon, saving my self a further 50% they both work fine. Hope that helps
never put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow
