Help! Costing too much to get statements!

Hi
I have just phoned Bank of Scotland to request copy of my statements since I opened my account. I have 'repayment cover' on my statements which varies each month, so I was going to calculate them up.
BUT
They are asking for £5 for the first 5 statements then a further £5 for every statement after that......
Is this allowed?
It's making me not want to bother now as it'd cost about £100!!

Yes - if their terms and conditions state that. It is only a Data Subject Access Request which must not cost ore than £10.
However, you do not need either to make a complaint - although simply having PPI does not mean it was missold.0 -
Yeah, but I think it was mis-sold... so, i need to calculate my total now before claiming?0

You arent complaining about the amount of PPI you have been paying, you are complaining that the PPI you know you have on your account with BoS was mis-sold. If you think its been mis-sold, get complaining. BoS will do all the calculations!!!
Obviously, if you feel you have paid loads towards the mis-sold PPI and BoS comeback to you with an offer which is loads less, then it might be worth getting those statements, but only afterwards0 -
Ahh right I see.. so basically I just moan about it and they offer me something?! Nice!
Sorry, it's just I read on a forum somewhere about going thru all my previous statements then highlighting it all and sending it off with a letter asking for it back!!!!0 -

Why?
If you were mis-sold you complain. If you were not, then you dont. There is no reason to get statements.Ahh right I see.. so basically I just moan about it and they offer me something?! Nice!
Not quite, but almost. You put in your complaint giving your reasons and any evidence to support your allegations. They look at your complaint. Check their documentation and decide whether you have a valid complaint or not.Sorry, it's just I read on a forum somewhere about going thru all my previous statements then highlighting it all and sending it off with a letter asking for it back!!!!
No need for that at all.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Some banks charge £5 for ALL statements and some up to £20 from the ones I've seen. Some like yours charge more.
In that case, you should do a Data Access Request with the £10 statutory fee (that's all they are allowed by law to charge) and they HAVE to send you EVERY data they hold on you, including statements.
Whether you were mis-sold anything or not is a different question to "can they charge me so much for statements".0
