Scottish Power poss Swap
Hi
As i have recently broken my ankle and now laid up for a bit i thought i would check up on all my bills etc make sure im getting the best deal
There is no gas where i live so i am oil and electric only, Oil does heating and water,
Electric is cooking lighting etc and i have an electric shower.
Majority of the time me and 1 dd living in the house, out all day home in evenings at in and out at wknds, No major appliances dont use my tumbler, wash maybe 3 times a week on average, never 2 tele's on at same time and maybe 1pc and 1 laptop. Everything else just the standard
I have been with scottish power for nearly 3 years and decided to give them a call.
At the beginning of the call i gave up to date meter readings and i always do my own after problems in the past. I asked whether i was on the best deal and he said i wasn't. I then went onto ask why in the 3 years i had been with SP had noone bothered to call me to let me know i could be better off, i suppose i presumed there were rules etc which meant they had to do this? I am possibly wrong.
He explained i am on just a standard monthly plan wtih economy 7 my annual useage is 4726 a year, Is this about normal?
He then went on to tell me about dd plan would be 1.5% cheaper and then there is discounted, fixed and monthly plan offers for me. Thing is these all worked out more expensive that what i do now!!
I did some comparison sites and OVO came out on 2 of them with a saving of £150 a year, but to be honest im so confused over standing charges rates and so forth i just told him i would be back in touch.
But how can they say im not on the best deal and then offer me ones which will end up costing me more?
Sorry to be ginger and confused, they come together!

The Utility Cos have a poor track record when asked by existing customers if there is a better tariff - Always go to a Switch site to get a view of the whole market.
Your mix of Oil Heating/Hot water with ECO7 is interesting and it's viability depends on the % of Elec you are using on the cheap Night rate versus the amount on the expensive Day rate - It would be a good excercise to also enter your Elec consumption on a Switch site without pressing the ECO 7 option, so that the prices you get are based on a 'Standard' meter ( Most suppliers will bill an ECO7 meter at Standard meter rates if asked to do so, by adding the two meter readings together )
I always include 'switchwithwhich' when looking at Utility prices as they have options that will display not just the headine cost, but the fine detail of any suppliers prices and terms directly alongside those of your current supplier0 -
Why are you on an E7 tariff if you don't have storage heating or an immersion heater to heat your hot water overnight on cheap rate?
What is your usage on each rate-you've only given one kWh figure? We need the percentage split.
It's likely (though not guaranteed) that you'd be better off on non-E7.
SP are under no obligation whatsoever to check that your tariff is the most economic-that is your responsibility. Standard tariff is always the most expensive.
Otherwise folllow the good advice from dogshome above. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
