Insurance Problems

We have called in our insurance company over a problem with subsidence of our conservatory we have been told that a tree needs to be removed and this will solve it, that's fine but now our insurance is due to be renewed they have put the policy up by over £500! I have looked at changing insurers but they are all very reluctant to quote. Does anyone know if we can get insurance without the subsidence cover or any other suggestions on what we might do? We have never had a claim before in over 20 years!

If possible, never mention the s word to an insurer

Did you actually make a claim on the insurance, if not then there is no reason why the policy should increase. Also, it would appear to be cheaper for you to have the tree removed yourself, and not make a claim

Well, you should not have mentioned the s word. Friends of ours had subsidence in a small extension that I built for them, and they could never get any other company to insure them, except the one who paid for the under-pinning.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
