Ikea Credit

Not sure if this is in the right place but just wanted to ask anyway.

I'm moving flat at the end of the month and as it's unfurnished I'm getting some furniture. Some of the stuff I'm getting is from Ikea and they are doing a 12 month 0% interest deal on purchases over a certain amount.

I have recently applied for and been accepted for credit when I bought my new bed for the flat (last week) - is that likely to mean that I wont get accepted for the Ikea finance?

Does anyone have experience of being knocked back for this?

I can pay for the stuff outright - just - but I would rather have the freedom to space this expenditure out over a few months. It would also mean I had money left now to buy things like a kettle, microwave etc.

Any thoughts?

  • Have you looked at your credit file online to see if the letting agents actually did any form of credit search on you? Despite the fees involved the last 3 that I have used haven't actually checked with credit reference agencies.

If it is your only application for credit in the last 6 months it is unlikely that a single query would give an automatic decline assuming everything else is in order.

I wouldn't have thought you'd get rejected for that.

Have you tried applying for a CC like the AA card? That would give you 10 months to pay off the balance and then you can buy all the essentials on one credit application. This would be my preferred approach, rather than filling in seperate credit agreements in different stores.
  • Just to let you know, applied for IKEA 0% deal today for suite and wardrobes. Accepted.
    Yay!

  • Good news & a relief I bet :-)
Can I find out my credit score?
You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)
