garage doing repairs without asking first???
My OH took in his L200 as he had a noise oming from it, he thought it was the thrust bearing, so he took it too the garage last Friday and left it there so they could get and look at it. He received a phone call on Monday saying it was the thrust bearing and whilst they were doing that they may aswell do the clutch. My OH did agree to them doing the clutch aswell although he didnt really think it was needed, but thought that because his car is old and he has only had it since 1 Nov '11 it my aswell be done, just incase. The repairs were being carried out where he purchased the vehicle from, which gave him a 13 month warranty which states that repairs and labour are to be charge at trade prices. When he agreed to the work being done he was told the car would be ready either Monday or Tuesday depending when the mechanic could do it. These two days passed without any call so he phoned them Wednedsay morning at 8am when he was told to call back about 9am as the mechanic doing his car was not in yet. On calling back he was told that the car was ready but to leave it till lunchtime when he had chance to do the bill. He was then told that they had done the propshaft at the same time!!! My OH had not agreed to this being done and was not informed that they would be doing it until he phoned the garage. Midday came and went without any return call so my OH phoned again to be told that it was ready and the total bill was £303 and some odd pence.
My OH paid the bill but is not very happy about it. He feels that the price is very high for "trade" price and feel sits more like the real price that anyone would pay, let alone them doing work he has not agreed too.
Can anyone please advice where my OH should go to complain about this and what his rights are about the garage doing work not agreed to? He is writting to the owner of the garage but would like to know where he can take it further, should he not get a satisfactory reply, if any reply at all.
Thank you

I suspect the warranty (trade prices) only covers faults and a clutch is a consumable so would not be covered.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

As Spiro said.. not everything is covered under warranty, so wear and tear items aren't.
Although a breakdown of prices would help so people can see if they are trade, retail or expensive.
With regards to the propshaft. A quick eBay for L200 propshaft says it's not that an expensive part.0 -

You can't compare automotive parts prices with some tool selling stuff on ebay!0 -

oh for f**ks sake.
You can use eBay for a rough price of parts. If they're selling for £30 on eBay from 95% of sellers, including business sellers then you can put your house on it that they're not going to cost £700 from a shop.
is it really that difficult especially when your average eBay business seller will get them from the same place as your average garage.0 -
Unless the ebay outlet was of a source I had already used or was part of their an established companys new distribution, no way in a million years would I put an ebay part on someone elses car. Far too many counterfeit "almost fits" or rejected components masquerading as new on ebay to risk a reputation. It's also a pain when someone says they could get the price for a third of the cost on ebay too. If they want to chance it, fine, but they can pay to have it fitted twice as well.0

Who said anything putting an eBay part on it?
again, life shouldn't be so difficult for simple things.0 -
Fine, you want to quote ebay prices but wouldn't want to fit them. That makes life nice and simple for the OP.0
