With business accounts, banks would not normally check the electoral role but the accounts and trading history of the company and the big banks will have dedicated business advisor's.

But how do you find out which banks will not check the electoral roll if they don't tell you when you ask? I thought Abbey were meant to be good for business accounts. If you can tell me for certain which banks will not check the electoral roll then that would be great and we could look from there which would be the most suitable.

If you aren't eligible to vote in UK elections you won't be able to add your name to the electoral roll. Because lenders use this to confirm the names and addresses of people applying for credit, if you're not registered you may well have difficulty getting credit. Can you send us something that confirms your name and address, such as a council tax statement or a tenancy agreement (we need the original, by the way, and will return it to you)? You can then ask us to add a note to your credit report to confirm we have seen this and that should help.

Already did that, and didn't help with the appeal from A&L so I assume it may still not be enough.

Just choose a bank and apply - don't worry about it.

As I say even if a 'personal' credit rating check is carried out it only records the fact that there has been a check and not if a particular product was granted/refused.

Also searches are deleted after a while anyway and people are credit searched all the time, applying for mortgages, bank accounts, credit cards, interest free credit and for lots of other reasons anyway.

So as long as your mother isn't applying for lots of these things in a short period it shouldn't make any difference - especially for a business account!

If one bank doesn't want your mothers business, (i.e. value her custom enough) move on to another one..
