Car Insurance Renewal.
My car insurance is up in a few days and i'm looking to renew. No one can seem to beat my auto renewal apart from a random company who i have never heard of before. Now my current insurer has a deal on for new customers but if i was to take this up it would save me another £100 a year. Does anyone know how the ground lies with this? Can i ring up my current insurer and haggle? Should I say I got a cheaper quote form the comapny i never heard of (i have the details in email to refer back to) and see if they can match it (which is still a bit higher than the new driver offer) or could i cancel my current isurance and then sign up again as a new customer or is this a grey area? This is the first time i've renewed and realise my questions may seem a little daft but i was hoping someone may have some good tips please!

If the wording says new customers only and excludes current customers you will get a bill soon after which could be
more than the initial saving.

You are perfectly entitled to take out a new policy as a "new" customer and tell your company to cancel the renewal. I've done it before with admiral as they "couldn't match" the new customer quote0

+1, I've done this successfully on a number of occasions, even been advised by Tesco insurance to do exactly that when they couldn't match their own lowest quote. Also, don't forget to look on the cashback sites like quidco and topcashback for even better savings. You are perfectly entitled to take out a new policy as a "new" customer and tell your company to cancel the renewal. I phoned up Sheila's Wheels when I got my renewal quote from them and an online search came up with them being the cheapest and a lot cheaper than my renewal. The woman on the phone asked for the reference number Moneysupermarket gave me and did me the policy for the same price.0

I did my Insurance with Admiral last week.
Renewel price from Admiral £225
Best price on that site with the Meerkat £175 (Elephant)
Phoned Admiral and asked if they could improve their price. She said she couldn't match Elephant price, but they were a 'sister' company so would see what she could do. Came back with renewel price of 1p more than teh Elephant price. Must be some kind of in-house brand management thing that Admiral can't be cheaper than Elephant or something.0 -
I seem to remember that when I originally took out my insurance with admiral, they were 1p cheaper than elephant. Maybe I'm just mis-remembering, but when renewal came around last month, they matched elephant without arguing, and that saved me over £100, I think.0

Thanks everyone for you advice, I rang up DL and asked if they could match their online quote to which she said she was afraid they couldn't but she did say that I was able to cancel my current policy and carry on with the online application so whooop i saved about £80! :j0
