brother hand held label printers

Options
Has anyone had dealings with Brother machines ?
I bought my husband a handheld label printer for garden labels and it is so complicated to set up that I want to return it.
Can't get in touch with them at all, phone calls go back to web site which is not easy to use, emails the same.
I wrote to them in desperation and am wondering if they will bother to reply.

Did you buy direct from Brother?
It is the retailer you need to get in touch with.

Did you buy at a distance?
Either online, by post or telephone?

    When did you buy it?
    Was it delivered? when?
  • In other words - if you bought it from a physical outlet and the item isn't faulty (ie the machine is working properly, and the difficulty in setting it up isn't due to the machine not functioning correctly) then you're appealing to the retailers better nature, and their refund policy, to get your money back. You're not entitled to anything if it's just a bit harder to put together than you imagined!

If it's faulty, you have proof of purchase and it's within a reasonable time of your purchase then take it back to the store you bought it from.

If you purchased online then the Distance Selling Regulations almost certainly apply - you have a right to inspect the item in your home (as you would in the shop if you bought it on the high street) for a period of time, and you have seven days to notify the retailer of your intention to refund it.

  • in answer to all your lovely replies concerning the Brother handheld label printer, some of which made me laugh, a lot :)
It is the GL200 which I am told is the easiest one to use !
Yes, I have read the instructions.
    It was bought online.
To ST99 can you take me through the principles of setting it up please ? and again, thank you for your replies, I had lost the will to live !

    OK, we're getting there.
    Fewer questions remain unanswered...

Seems like a normal Brother label printer, no different from any other to use.
  • In reply to wealdroam,
My sister-in-law bought it for me from the Brother site, I wanted it as a surprise for my husband and we have a joint account.
It was ordered 17.11.11 and arrived 21.11.11
The address on the paperwork is P-Touch Store though, address Impulse House Grove Way Bury Cambs which is the address I wrote to.

    Thanks.

That confirms that you are unable to return the thing under the provisions of the Distance Selling Regulations.

You have no statutory right to return it unless it is faulty.

You may have a contractual right to return it if they have a term in their T&Cs something like "if you change your mind, you can return the goods within the first three months after purchase".
    That is unlikely.

You only chance of returning the item is hoping they will offer you a refund out of goodwill.

Personally, I think you will need to persevere with your attempts to master the thing.
    Good luck.
