Virgin Superhub - separate router?

Hi I hope someone can help me.
I have Virgin broadband and when working it's brilliant, but it constantly drops out and the hub is reportedly pants.
For a long time there was talk of being able to use the hub as a modem only, and attaching a separate router. This was repeatedly delayed however, and I'm not sure if it's yet possible?

If it is now possible, could somebody recommend a good 'n' router to plug into it? I was so close to just abandoning Virgin but now they're doubling speeds for free I'm prepared to shell out on a router if possible to ensure a reliable connection.

Thanks

Ok I've done some searching and the ASUS RT-N56u seems a good piece of kit. It sounds a little complicated if you need it to be but will also do its job well.

Any opinions on this hardware welcome.

    Thanks

A few weeks ago virgin tried to get me to upgrade from 10Mb to 30Mb connection, but said I would need a new modem and router. I then said I want to keep the router I bought myself and would it work through that and she assured me it will
Now im not saying it will myself, just that the virgn saleswoman said it would.
