We have 3 on the go, in one I put 1p, 2p and 5p pieces, that goes into a counting money jar, tells you the total on the top. I have a tall tin for my £1 a day or more if I have a extra odd one and upstairs on the window sill I have a big penguin biscuit barrel which I put 2p pieces into, theses are then used when we go on holiday or days at the seaside for the 2p machines in the arcades which we all love.0

I already save 1p, 2p and 5p which generally go into the ISA once there is enough for a coin bag.
I've been thinking though about a sealed pot for larger change to get some more money into the account as it does take me a long time to get enough to pay in a bag... 5ps take a good year! Maybe opening every quarter or something and then go and make a deposit.
At some point this year it is very likely that my income will reduce by almost half for at least a year so the more I have in the ISA by then the better.0 -
I have been doing this for years, the P.O. will take change but it has to be bagged which is not a problem, they weigh it . Go on a non-busy day they are happy to oblige.Would never ever use Coin machines and pay for the privilege.I save loose change as well, and will save more now as the change had previously been used to pay the milkman. (We now pay online - long story
)
I also save 50p's in a money box, I can get into it, but I won't be doing so. I'll just count up how much is in there......£4.50 I'm glad I did that, as I found out the hole isn't very big and you have to fish them out one at a time  I think I'll revert to the original money box.
Can I ask please,
Spider in the Bath, you said you cash in change at the bank. Do the banks still take change, does it have to be bagged up? I guess it does, I didn't think they had the time for that now. Or didn't like doing it. I surpose they are obliged too if it isn't every week.
I've been using Coinstar machines in the past :eek:You live..You learn.:)0 -
Good Morning All,
Last year I got a "Coin tray and note holder" which has 3 slots for notes and a section for each of the coins.
Each coin section has the £ value for this coin on the side so one can easily see how much has been saved up.
As soon as I have enough to to bag it up I do so but I only go to the bank once I have more than £10 bagged up.
Each weekend I also empty my pockets of all loose change, keep £4 for change at work for next week, and put the rest in the trays.
On average I have saved £180 - £200 each year over the last 3-4 years.
@ Linda32 - I agree with renegade - don't use coinstar machines and pay for something you can get for free at your bank.
Banks still take loose change but it has to be bagged - they supply the bags and let you do the work. However, using this coin tray has cut down on the time I used to spend counting all the loose money.
Happy saving everyone! You are 42% tight"You're frugal, you're thrifty, but on this site that's a little bit fab."Debt at start of 2010: £11,415.91. Debt at start of 2012: £4,830.00. Debt as of 01.04.2012: £ 1,230.00  Target date to be debt free: October / November 2012. :j0 -
I have been thinking about doing this recently as my purse seems to get very heavy with all the change. I will look round the house for a suitable container.
The only coins which I save in a plastic bank bag are 5p's, which I use in car parks, I do begrudge paying 50p just to nip into the bank or buy some fresh vegetables etc.
It does take me a while to put them in all in the machine, but I do get satisfaction from it!!!!
