Packing box sizes, help please.

Hi
I'm moving soon and am looking at buying some boxes, I have seen some that are size 20"x 15" x 13"
Would that be an ok size? I can't find my tape measure!

    They would be fine.

Don't buy boxes from mad4boxes as they are worse than useless

Just a note; we were going to buy some but were shocked at the price of boxes. On the off chance, my wife asked in Poundland (first place she arrived at in town) if they had any spare boxes and they gave us a bootload of huge cardboard boxes and were glad to be rid of them.

if you have a lot of books, you will need fairly small boxes as they get heavy pretty quickly. Have to admit we paid for packing as well as the actual moving. May not be very money saving, but given I can't restack dishwasher without OH needing to redo it, probably wise! We ended up with over a dozen boxes just for the books. And they were blimin heavy
  • In my experience you always need more small boxes than you think. For books mainly, but anything heavy just becomes a nightmare in larger boxes.

Freecycle is a good place to ask for packing boxes, they pop up quite frequently on my local Freecycle.

Gumtree also advertise them-some people put them on for free, some a small charge, but cheaper than buying new.
As said above my Freecycle also has them regularly
  • Hi,

ask at your local pub, spirit boxes are a handy size for books and bits and pieces.

Every time I've moved, the removal firm has provided as many boxes as needed and all packing materials within the cost
  • A good mix of small, medium and large boxes is useful due to the weight and size of different things. As people have suggested, ask on your local Freecycle, when we moved we got a huge number on there. Didn't have to buy any boxes.
  • Thanks, I just want to get a lot of boxes and pack, found some thick 2nd hand ones, 20 for £20, all that size. Good enough for me.
I've moved loads of times so am tryng to do this one with as little fuss as possible, trailing round shops and pubs is not something I want to be doing!
I've asked on facebook groups and freecycle, no luck as of yet.
