MacBook Insurance

After spilling a cup of tea on my macbook pro and having to claim on the house insurance. (high excess and giving me a bad claims history)
I want to take out gadget cover for it as I have been rather clumsy recently.
Whats the best deal to cover my macbook?

I know this isn't exactly the response you're looking for but I recommend getting one of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Full-Clear-Keyboard-Skin-Cover-MacBook-Pro-13-3-/160670660123?pt=UK_Computing_Apple_Mac_Accessories&hash=item2568b7b61b#ht_1911wt_1144
It's a thin keyboard cover.
(obviously you need to make sure it matches the model)
I too have had the same issue with liquid spillage THREE TIMES over my Macbook Pro years. Luckily I managed to take the laptop apart myself and fix it (https://www.ifixit.com), but each time required buying the keyboard (which I think I got for around £50 on Ebay) and a lot of steady screwdriver action! Oh and heart in mouth stuff when it came to switching it on after fixing it!
Now I have this cover, you don't have to worry about a thing. Sure the keys are a little more 'squidgy' but you get used to it and it's a small price to pay for knowing that if coffee or wine goes over the top of the lappy you're gonna be fine.
Also a word of advice: If you EVER spill anything on your mac lappy, IMMEDIATELY turn it upside down, shaking it, whilst keeping your finger depressed on the power button (this will turn it off really quick and get rid of as much water as possible). Then ASAP clean it all under the keys as much as you can with Alcohol cleaner and and air duster (Maplins). Wait until you're sure it's all dried until you switch it back on.
Hope this helps mate.0 -
As far as insurance goes, I would recommend Apple Care.0

This is an extended warranty, and is not insurance. They would not touch a product, even with Apple Care, if it had signs of water damage. Or indeed any faults or damage that are accidental or contributed to by accidental damage.
I have no experience with gadget insurance, and insure my laptop etc. all risks on my contents insurance. I have had an accidental damage claim on a £1,600 laptop a few years ago, and they loaded my premium by around 15% for two years after, then it dropped again. I would check to see if this would have a similar effect at your renewal.0 -

I'd just rip the battery out, rather than pressing the power button. But it depends what version you have I suppose0
