I'd let things ride until you are better, then get back into a routine. It won't do any harm not to eat together for a little while even if you like to.

My OH is never home from work before 7.30 and often much much later (he is a workaholic lol). My kids are 2,10 and nearly 12. I cook two meals - one at 5.30 pm for the 3 kids and I sit down with them but don't eat, and one for around 8pm for OH and me. If he is going to be late, then I will usually eat on my own at 8 and leave his to be heated up in the microwave when he gets in, because as a SAHM who has lunch with the 2 year old at around 12.30/1pm I can't hold out much later before my evening meal. If OH is away on business, I will eat with the children at 6 ish. We all eat together at weekends. Its not ideal but the only thing that works for us, as I like all 3 of mine to be in bed by 8 (the little 2 a bit earlier) so can't let them eat when dad gets home and I like the social aspect of eating with my OH.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'd plan your six thirty meal to be lighter, so you don't feel 'all full up' for bed, say soup, with a sandwich or cheese on toast for your Dh so he has something more substantial, but have something after school with your daughter.... A piece of fruit, some crudit!s, .some fruit salad, a light savoury salad...nothing carny so you still have room for your light later supper.
  • ive got 4 teenagers, they are ALWAYS hungry after school, I give them a snack, peanut butter on toast, fruit, yogurt then they have our main meal later, Ive not found it decreases their appetite at all! If you feel hungry would a low fat yogurt or a piece of fruit fill you up too much to eat your supper later?

really? not even some toast for a snack? a banana? that wouldn't fill you up too much would it?

If i had toast at around 4.30 then I wouldn't want to eat a meal at around 6.30. That's just me though, DD would be fine with that.

it is best to eat together if poss, much more sociable, chatting and catching up:D

Still do the sitting together whilst he eats, so we have the social chatting catchup side of things, just I'm not actually eating with him, if you know what i mean - might have a coffee or something.

I thought about about leaving things until i'm fit again, however after my op in Feb I won't be mobile for quite some time, so I won't even make it to the dinner table :( so i guess i shouldn't worry too much at the moment.

Just OH mentioned it tonight and was trying to find ways round it.

I am going to try DD with a snack and I'm going to try and have lunch a little later than I have been, hopefully that will push things back to the time OH is coming in from work.

I might try changing what I eat a little so it's not as heavy for me. I'm finding I'm in bed by about 8.30 or lying watching tv as tired and bored and so a big meal isn't sitting too well with me. I tried a few weeks back, having my main meal for my lunch and then my lunch at dinner time, however I don't like not eating the same as everyone else so stopped that.

I'm sure once I'm mobile again and back to full time things will go back to normal, it's just another thing I'm worrying about right now.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

DD (5) and DS (10 months) eat at around 4.30/5pm. OH and I eat at around 7.30 when he gets in from work.

Its not ideal, but I can't keep the children up until that time and I don't feel too bad about it as we all eat together at the weekend.
  • DS and DD (6 and 5) usually have dinner around 5pm, I sometimes eat with them, depends on what we're all having, but usually DH and I don't eat until about 8ish. We all eat together on the weekend, I wish we could all eat together in the week, but that's just not possible at the moment.

I'm sure he'll be made up if he comes home from work and his tea is a sandwich.

OP... instead of a snack at half 4, just have the snack at 3 when your direct debit comes in from school. You've got 3.5 hours to go before your main meal.
