You can't claim jsa or HB without a p45 if you have just finished work.
It is within my remit to register my employers with the hmrc.0 -

But you have to admit, that's not the story you presented in your first post. You said "I spoke to our treasurer about voluntarily registering with the hmrc yesterday and she said she doesn't want to do it as it would give her loads of unnecessary paperwork."
You said absolutely nothing about anyone agreeing to it, and then went on to say "I think I've just registered my employer on the hmrc website. As manager of the charity I have taken it upon myself to do this". This very strongly implies that you made the decision without anyone's authority.
I agree that people can jump to conclusions a lot on this forum - and others - and of course a post never tells the whole story. But you left out very significant bits which create a completely different story altogether.
So I don't think you can blame anyone for making the assumptions they did.

Sorry but you are wrong, I have done it and never supplied a p45. You state on your claim form never supplied with one. Your claim may take longer but it will be backdated to when you made the claim.0

If the hours a week which the OP currently works has always been the minimum they have had with this employer (since March 2009) then for all of that time they have not been able to register for JSA.
In order to claim JSA in the first place you would have to confirm you were not working 16 hours a week. It wouldn't be acceptable to claim JSA, giving that confirmation, and then say, oh, by the way, I have actually been working 16 hours a week for quite some time now.
We do not know - details not given - whether the potential ability to claim HB is something which has arisen more recently than the start of employment.0 -

Is the chairperson an employee too? Why did you need her NI number?
Is this a case of a chair/trustee also doing paid work for the charity of which they are a trustee?0 -
i've never been asked for a p45 for HB. only wage slips.Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

Nobody jumped to any conclusions. You have told two different versions, one of which involved no mention of a decision to register - quite the contrary, since all the information supplied was that the charirty has never wanted to register and still doesn't; and one of which, quite inexpicably, consists of them making a decision to register, in which case one wonders why on earth you were asking the original question.
You seem to have a problem with clarity. When you asked people if you had to work in cold conditions, you insisted that you had never asked such a question despite the fact that the title of your thread "Can I refuse to work in this cold?" - and then you had a go at people who had answerd your question!
And no - you do not need a P45 or a P60 to clain housing benefit - you are not the only person in the world who doesn't have these documents.0 -
OK I think my problem is that I try and write the posts so that if anyone in the future has the same problems they can read mine and it may help them instead of writing as if it was me.
So I do it as if I'm me now.
At the board/committee meeting on monday they all (including the treasurer) agreed that they would register as an employer. The next day the treasurer says she doesn't want to do it as it will cause her a lot of paperwork. So I as manager of the charity did it myself with the go ahead of the chairperson (who is a volunteer and doesn't get paid). As chairperson I needed to put her NI number in. I don't know why, it asks for it on the form.
As with regards P45's and P60's for housing benefit go. My husband was working up until October. Whilst he and I were both in work we got a tiny bit of housing benefit, literally something like £5 a week. When he got made redundant in october we went to HB to inform them and they said they couldnt update the HB without seeing his P45. I said that as he was working under the threshold for paying income tax and NI his employers didn't give him a P45 as they didn't register as an employer and I'm afraid it didn't wash. They wouldnt accept that some employees dont get P45's and P60's. They said it was the law. I printed out the pages from the goverment website stating that they didnt have to give one but they still wouldnt take no for an answer. In the end I had to beg and plead his ex employer for one otherwise they werent going to update the HB. I actually had a letter from them saying they cannot proceed with the change until they have received a P45.0
