RHT meters and inability to move to another provided
Options
I found your website this morning and was thrilled to see that other peple had difficulty with RHT. Seemingly I am unable to move to another provider and I am unable to compare prices because no other provider supports RHT other than EON with whom I am currently bonded to! What is the history of RHT? does anyone know and why is it so untoucable?

Welcome to the forum.
RHT = Restricted Hour Tariff
I believe its origins go back to the days of the White meter' tariff where only storage and immersion heaters were switched to cheap rate electricity; the remainder of house electrics stayed on the single rate 'peak' rate. Scotland in particular had a lot of variations of off-peak tariffs. There were also regional variations across UK before electricity was opeded up to competition.
These days for Economy 7 (and sometimes E10 where available) it is normal for the whole house electrics to switch to cheap rate.
I surmise that the cost of changing meters to accomodate RHT and the computer software for billing, mean that it is not viable for other companies.
From some of the prices I have seen quoted on MSE you would be better off considering a move to Economy 7 or a single rate tariff. At least then all companies would supply.0 -

AFAIK EON, NPOWER and SCOTTISH POWER are the only 3 major suppliers that support RHT meters. (Not sure about the smaller suppliers)0
