PC running slow and Spyware

Hey all
I'm having some real problems with my PC running slowly and generally being grumpy. Housecall and panda say that I've got 50 types of spyware on my computer (gah!) but I've scanned with Adaware and AGV and they can't find anything. I've tried to download spybot but although it says it's worked when I double click on the icon nothing happens!! I don't have a clue what to do now. Why won't spybot work? Everyone says it's the best. Do I need to restore the system? I really don't have the foggiest how to do that. Are the instructions on the first page of this thread out of date or are they OK?
I'd really appreciate your help

It could just be that one of the Spyware programs has disabled Spybot. You could consider registering with Tech Support Guy & see if anyone will take up your case. I see that the experienced contributirs can ask you for a report then advise on your individual issues.
Example:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-95-98-me/195010-tons-error-messages-my-computer.html?d881793de8106bf089525537280c7cc6=0 -
After much hysteria I managed to get spybot to work (saved it to memory stick from another PC) and that got rid of 24 programmes but it's still running slowly. I ran hijack this but it said to get someone who knows what they're doing to check what's deleted so that one's out.
Someone was telling me yesterday that you should only have one anti-spyware and firewall on your PC cos it can break them is that true?0 -
post you hijack log here or on the hijack forum.0

Can't be true as I have adaware and spybot also I use AVG(free).
To deal with your problem run them in this order AVG first then Adaware and then spybot. After you have finish hopefuly it will pick all problems up, do not store what each one piks up in quaratine(sp?), make sure you fully delete them.
Once done then goto to 'my computer' right click on your main drive and select properties and then do a disk clean up, just to get rid of your temp files, or you could do this manually.
Also when was the last time you did a defrag on your computer? if you install or remove software regular then this can slow your pc down, even by putting music on and off your pc can also do this.

They meant only one anti-virus program and one software firewall. You can have as many anti-spyware programs as you like.
Suggest you follow posts #1 to #4 of the Spyware/Malware removal guide in the sticky at the top of this forum

you need to install hijackthis in it's own directory
Do this first - go to C: and create a new permanent folder.
Example C:\AntiSpyWare or C:\hijackthis This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong.
Then put (or download - choose "save" not "run") the hijackthis.exe file in this folder.
If you downloaded a zipped HJT file unzip it to the permanent folder so you have C:\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe.
then fix these by putting a tick in the box nest to thos items and then click on " Fix Checked" button
