I think you mean those are the worst tv's.

I am on my 2nd Philips TV. The first one lasted 10 years and I expect this new one will also last 10 years.

no really. we had a panasonic, lasted us ten years.

When ordinary Tube based TV sets fail these days its often the 'flyback' (Line Output) transformer and/or the horizontal output transistor which are to blame. The transformer is the part which generates the 20kV Voltage required to light the tube and power the colour guns and the transistor is the component which creates a wave to run the transformer.

Sounds technical I know but replacing these components isn't all that difficult if you know how to use a soldering Iron and pump.

If one of these 2 components are at fault the entire set will probably fail to work at all, and you can normally hear a high pitched whistling in the back of the set.

TV repairmen will often tell and charge you anything so be vary careful when listening to them and get a second opinion if possible. When my parents tv broke down the repairman charged £120 and said it needed a lot of work. I had the back off it and saw that the flyback and the transistor had been changed and that was it (you can tell whats been replaced by the look of the solder).

    Upon pricing these components up:

    Flyback Transformer: £12.80
    Horizontal Output Transistor: £3.00

So the repairman made £104 on that repair!.

Obviously, TV sets are very dangerous and can carry voltages inside around 10 x that of the mains if not left to discharge properly. So don't attempt to repair one yourself if you aren't sure what your doing.

do u fix telly's cos i got a probs with mine and i would just like to ask a quick question.

That might be more to do with the channel.

Some like to save a few bob by throttling back the bandwidth they use to broadcast (over satellite), not just the teleshopping channels, even Sky do it.

Depends what you are watching, snooker is fine but lots of movement will pixellate (e.g. football/horse racing).

I take you mean the 32pw9308 thats on offer.

Great deal, but I'm trying to find the full spec. The Philps website doesn't seem to have it anymore. Is it discontinued? Is that is why its cheap?

How is it different from the 32pw9509 which seems to be around.

Am very tempted to buy one.

    Just found out

The 9308 is cheap because its discontinued.

The only real difference between teh 9308 and the 9509 is that the first one has Pixel plus 1 and the second Pixel plus 2.

    Does anyone know the difference.

Pixel Plus 2 is supposed to have more processing to make the picture more natural, but in some reviews they say that the previous version of Pixel Plus is better, So it is really down to personal preference.

I saw both types working in shops and decided that Pixel Plus 2 is not as good, so I went for a discontinued top of the range model with Dolby Digital :D

You will notice the picture processing at first until you get used to it, but after that you appreciate the great picture quality :D
