Gas - what should we be paying?

I live in a rented victorian terraced maisonette with 2 other people. It is really drafty, has huge single glazed sash windows and incredibly high ceilings. We have gas central heating, hot water (which has to be on for heating to work) & stove. We are all out at work during the week but home evenings and most weekends.

At the moment during the week the heating/hot water comes on for about 2 hours in the morning and about 5 in the evening and at weekends it is on for about 8 or 9 hours if we are there.

I just got our bill for period Nov 2nd - Jan 23rd and it is for £164.77. Split between us that's £18 per month... I dont know exactly how you work out what is high usage but is that alot?

Excuse my ignorance but I lived in a bills all inc place before and if we are paying way too much want to look at ways to cut down etc.

draught proof what you can to improve loss

thanks love lifer... be good to know that what we are paying is about right! The draught proofing seems like such a hard task which such huge windows and floorboards with a cellar below... we'll have to see if we can sort something tho i suppose.
