Blackberry battery life

Looking for some advice.

My one month old blackberry's battery lasts for less than a day. Eg, I charged overnight, from 8pm - 8am this morning (battery was 100% charged) and although I've never actually made/received any calls, BBM'd, texted, received/sent e-mails, used internet, listened to music or played games etc etc, my remaining battery life is now only 45%. Thats with wifi and bluetooth also turned off. So I've used 55% of the battery power doing SFA!

The battery held it's charge when I first got it, I'd get 2-3 days before needing to charge it. It's really only this past week I've noticed the battery power isn't lasting despite the low or zero usage.

Do you think I have a faulty battery or is there something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Have you got any apps running? The weather app on mine will update by GPS, if I don't have it running my battery life will last longer than if I do

Hi Scheming, don't think I have any apps running, at least not intentially. I did wonder if apps running in the background might be the reason the battery is using it's power so quickly but not sure how I check to see if any are running or not - sorry, I'm really crap with technology and probably have stuck to my less complicated mobile.
  • It might be worth going back into the store you bought it from and asking them some questions. Possibly they'll be able to help you see what aps you have running in the background (if any) and show you how to turn them off. Also, they may be able to test the battery to see if it is holding a full charge or not.

Which model? One of them gets very bad reviews for battery life.

Good idea Chubbster, will take it into the Virgin shop next week.

It's a BB curve 9300 that I have. I have a feeling it's either a duff battery or I'm running something without knowing it as when I first got it a month ago, the battery was fine.

    Thanks for your help guys.

In my old job I used to be responsible for evaluting mobile technologies, amongst them Blackberry devices. The one thing I noticed over the years that while RIM improved the Blackberry overall the battery life became more atrocious with each new and/or improved feature. It's as if they completely overlooked the need for an improved battery life while adding all these other bits and pieces in there.

Both myself and another manager had a 9300 for a while (it was the last Blackberry I had before leaving the company). In the 14/15 months we had it both of us managed to get onto our third battery. It started early on with the daily charge then as time progressed we needed to keep our USB charge cables continuously connected to our laptops just to make a call.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Blackberry is a great piece of kit but RIM really need to get their act together on improving battery life.
