Miniature schnauzer scotland wanted!

Hi,

I live in Scotland and have been searching and searching for a breeder of miniature Schnauzers, I absolutely love the Giant Breed but need something smaller and the miniatures are equally as beautiful . I would even adopt / rescue a miniature if one were available, if anyone could help i would be eternally grateful.

Many Thanks!

Ben

If you google schnauzer forum, they have a re-homing page for sure and can recommend good breeders, one of which will hopefully be near you.

I have two minis and they are an absolute delight to own, er, be owned by!;)
  • Hi, thanks for that link, ive checked them out but none have any real links to anywhere in scotland - thanks for looking though im just hoping someone is involved in it up here or knows anyone or of anyone, long shot i know!!

You might have to travel - I had to go miles to get both of my dogs, because I knew what I wanted!

A couple of years ago I boarded my cat at a the Avalon Cattery in Bishopbriggs. They also had kennels which I think was the main business and the cattery apparently was a sideline run by the daughter and her partner.

I'm sure the chap told me that they breed Miniature Schnauzers.

Don't have the phone number to hand but I'm sure you will find them on Google.
As I said, this was about 2 years ago or so but worth a call. Good luck!

Something to be aware of is that breeders dictate most of how your adult dog will behave so if you purchase from a kennel which does no handling/dogs never see other dogs or kids, pups are fed in one dish so have to fight for food, you will probably get issues with grooming, kids, dogs and food aggression as an adult dog.

Training can help but if a pup has already been fixated on living like that for weeks then it's going to be incredibly difficult.

Sourcing a really good breeder is so important with any breed. No matter what distance (although I understand being local would be far better :P)

I would avoid at all costs ads in the paper, breeders that do not health check and you need to do a vast amount of research now on the breed and on puppies in general so you know what to expect :)

Have you tried the Kennel Club puppy finder?

I do know that a lot of people looking for Miniature Schnauzers have to be prepared to travel - I had a two hour journey for mine which is actually quite short.

The schnauzer forum members can be really helpful too.

Be careful going to the Kennel club they have and do register pups from puppy farms, your far better going to a breed club or if there are any dog shows near you go along to them and speak to the breeders there, don't know where you are in Scotland but if you look here http://www.royalhighlandcentre.co.uk/events/calendar-of-events-2012.html there are a few dog shows coming up. If you look on Champdogs there are 3 breeders in Scotland on there, just be very careful that they are good breeders.
