Attaching a hose to a large Kitchen Swan neck mixer tap - Help please?

Hi - I live in a communal block of flats and we did have a tap outside that I could attach my hose to to clean things like my bikes with.

About a year ago it stopped working, the plumber came out and capped it off - have no idea why

Anyway I could really do with running water outside cos it's a pain to keep lugging buckets of water out.

I have a large Bristan 1" diameter swan neck kitchen tap. Can anyone recommend a decent adaptor that I can fit to it so that I can attach Hozelock type fittings too?

I tried one of those "spam key" type adaptors but it was useless and just didn't stay on.

Thanks in advance for any help

Sorry, the only ones I could find were the "spam key" type. I assume the tap is round in shape?

I thought that the spam key was a button on here to remove unwanted posts.

Slightly lateral thought, but do you have a washing machine connection which you can access relatively easily? Sometimes these are connected under the kitchen sink etc. If you turned that off and disconnected the washing machine you'd have a screw thread connection which you could probably get a hoselock connector to fit (might need the relevant adaptors).

ETA - just a word of warning. In our previous house we had a mixer tap which we managed to fix a hose to via an adaptor. Whilst I was washing the car with this set up I turned the end of the hose off outside and got on with the shampoo stage. Halfway through I heard a scream from the kitchen - my OH had come down to make a drink and discovered that the tap arm had parted from the base under the water pressure so we now had a 6 foot vertical fountain in the kitchen. Moral of the story - if you want to fix a hose to a mixer tap make sure the arm is secure first!

  • Thank goodness. You have answered my question - tried all over the net and Google. I have a big curved mixer tap - which I now know is a swan neck - and from the myriad of different hoze connectors I now know which will work. Fab!

You have an outside tap which you want to use.

A previous plumber 'capped' it. Why?

Get the plumber back or get another plumber to fix whatever is wrong with the outside tap, and get it back in working order, surely...?

That sounds like the best idea to me.

Fixing a hose to a tap can cause big problems. If it pulls off the tap or comes off due to the pressure, the water in the hose will flood the floor when the pipe lands on the floor.

My parent's had something like the pictures shown earlier in this thread and they do really need someone to supervise it.
