Front garden fence, what should I expect?

Could anyone give me a clue as to what price should I expect to pay to have a fence put up (approx 30 ft in length)?

A family member removed the privot hedges from my front garden and charged me £90.
I then bought the picket style fence panels(x5), posts, post spikes and postcrete from wickes which came to £255 with delivery. I am trying to keep costs down and have been  thus far !!
Now I have the cost on top for the fencing to be put up, I have tried calling local handymen, but they seem to be either snowed under with work or not answering their phone !

  • If you are trying to keep costs down why don't you have a go yourself...get a friend or family member to help you.

Have a look online at tips for putting a fence up, or I'm sure some fellow MSEr's will give you some tips.

My Brother & gf put their fence up in a 100ft garden...they have no DIY experience whatsoever but took their time & it looks great!

Or you could try calling more handymen/fencing places for quotes. Just keep ringing lots of people until you have 3-4 quotes :-)

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Doing it myself is not an option (single female) and sadly there is no one I can ask to help anyway.
I have managed to get through to one fencing company who quoted me £165, does that seem fair ?
Two handymen have said they don't "get involved" with fencing  !!
Buying the fence and equipment pretty much cleaned me out so I was hoping this would be a cheap job (by a handyman)

Ohh..shame you have noone to help you you could save £££.

Keep ringing!...You need to get 4 quotes!..Also mention you can pay cash (that's if you can lol) & your good at making tea!

I'd expect to pay about £120-£150 tops as you already have all the materials. But depends where you live?
