Fuel charges query

Im paying £153 in gas and electric and have £400 in the "kitty". Was paying £180 but they lowered it. How much extra do people have in their accounts to cover heating over winter. It seems quite high to me but dont want to ask for it back and face a huge bill later on. I have a 3 bed semi and have the radiators ticking over all day and night but on low. Is my charge about right
Thanks
I hope that my child, looking back on today

Maybe....What is your annual usage in kWh? Ask for the excess back in April after you get your winter bill.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I dont have the bills to hand so dont know. Will do what you advise and check in April and see where were at. Have a multi fuel wood burner now and hoping to keep a close eye on our charges but admit I find the utility bill quite confusing. The money in the kitty seems to be rising over winter though rather then falling which youd expect it too.

If you don't post/know your annual consumption in kWh then no one can tell if the bill is 'reasonable' or not. Your definition of 'low' may not match someone else's, what matters is your usage, not your monthly DD amount. Without knowing the split between gas and electricy DD's, its impossible to even hazard a guess.
If it helps, the average UK consumption for a property with gas CH and DHW is 16,500kWH for gas and 3,300kWh for electricity.
But running your heating all night is a sure way to greatly increase your gas bills, it's only necessary in the very coldest conditions such as we had in December 2010. You are probably adding at least 40% to your winter usage by doing so.

As Macman has posted, you need to know your Annual Gas & Elec consumptions in Kwh to know if your D/Debit payments are too High, Low or about right

If you can't gather this information from past Bills, phone your suppier and ask - Once armed with these figures you can punch them into 'switchwithwhich'

Select the Kwh figures over a year from the drop down menus, which will produce the Annual costs from all the suppliers - Press the 'compare tariff' icon on any of these and it will bring up the fine detail of that suppliers tariff, directly alongside the fine detail and and Annual cost of your present supplier
