Newchapter wrote: »Good morning all,
Well, I am being brave and have declared to the world, well all my friends on this forum anyway, the extent of my debt. This is the first time I have actually worked out how much I owe. even though I've had a DMP for over a year, this is the first time I am actually facing reality.
2013 is going to be the year I take control of my financial siutation properly. I'll need your wise words and help guys, but I see so many of you making progress and that's inspiring.
Onwards and upwards!!
Onwards and upwards indeed :T0 -
Thanks for your reply TTFTM, it is addressed to me and the opening line is 'We are required by law to send this notice to you before we can take action to recover the outstanding balance on your account'. There is a leaflet enclosed from OFT too. On the top right hand corner of the letter in a box in big red letters is says:
DEFAULT NOTICE
Served under Section 87 (1) of the Consumer Credit Act 1974
Does that mean it's a proper default then?
xx
Sounds like so. You could do two things quickly and cheaply if you are unsure
1) write to them to ask if it is an actual default?
2) sign upto a free noddle report.https://www.noddle.co.uk/
You'd see the default but they can take a month or two to get on.
Good luck

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. I am already registered with Noddle so will keep an eye to see if it shows up on there. Will is say something as simple as 'DEFAULT' or am I looking for something else? I find Noddle abit confusing with all the coding.
Thanks again0 -
Can I just say (to the person who accused this thread of being cliquey!) that I have never ever ever found this thread cliquey. Without the support of everyone on here I would not be on a DMP nor have had the help and advice that I have needed through the deciding/setting up process. When I was a newbie I was welcomed and treated like an established member, no question has been too silly and I have never felt judged or embarrassed. Some areas of MSE can be downright horrible but this particular area has been a godsend!0

Have just checked my account for you. The summary status states DEFAULT, the monthly account has a D and if you hover over it says account defaulted.
Good luck

It is Ellie, there is no doubt in my mind about that.
Without this thread, I never would have managed at the start of our DMP, people here were absolutely amazing and answered every single one of my questions .... no matter how daft they were
I feel I have to give that help back to other people and for us to encourage each other, share opinions and experience and above all support each other. Mutual support is what it's all about :TLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

How patronising, the info is there when you look for it, how much more transparent do you want than audited accounts, i take it you've never worked with any charities? and for info i'm not paying interest to any of my 9 creditors including m and s
, i did have an issue with Marbles but that was resolved, oh and i haven't had to send them threatening letters all i've done is have the balls to speak to them, and keep them informed, seems to me there's just a little clique going on on here, and you're either in or not in. If you're not happy with how they are managing your DMP go self managed, but don't put people off, that are desperate for help by insinuating that they're doing things that aren't entirely ethical with actually no proof
There is no clique, it is a support thread where you can and do help each other. Ok then, maybe a club or gang, but maybe that's cos we're just so damn friendly and helpful that people stick around. :-)
I will say that I've never had any expectations from the DMP companies. All they do is manage my payments and ask to stop interest. When the phonecalls started at the beginning I was always open to answering the calls and discussing my situation. Despite differing opinions on here, I've always stated that speaking to the creditors (as opposed to request writing only or avoiding them), helped to stop interest on all the accounts (Though some accounts took a while!. I never asked them to stop interest. Maybe I was just lucky.
In no way was the comment to you meant to be patronising!DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
