Debt-free and Proud!
Thank You Time to face the music.

I really want to put it towards debt repayment but didn't want to cause myself problems.

This should knock another 4 months off my DFD bringing it down to 10 months. :j:j:j This time two weeks ago I had another 3 years to go and now I can see the light at the end of a very, very long tunnel.

Great news parsniphead, you must be looking forward to that! Any plans for when you are debt free?
Hi, hoping someone will be able to advise me. My ex-husband and I are on a DMP with CCCS, we seperated in January this year, but continued to pay the monthly payment. However, this morning I received a text message!! telling me that he has declared himself bankrupt!

What does this mean with regards to the DMP, am hoping that it doesnt mean I am now liable.

Thanks in advance, I'm worried sick x

Hi Clare, I agree with TTFTM you need to contact the professionals.

Speak to StepChange (was CCCS), but I can tell you any joint debts you had with your ex-husband will now fall to you to pay.

• Thank you all so much for you advice. I think I'll give them a call tomorrow and see where I stand. Just seems so unfair.

• Hello All

I have been working on the final stages of my bank account change today (DDs and SOs) and decided I needed to cancel my Direct Debits to the loans and credit cards now that I have a DMP start date set.

Anyway this is the bit I have been dreading - I decided I needed to speak to the creditors before cancelling the DD and so called Lloyds TSB loans as they had acknowledged my letter giving permission to speak with StepChange.

The person I spoke to at Lloyds TSB was sympathetic and pleasant. Initially he went through a standard SOA and agreed that speaking to CCCS/StepChange had been the advice they would have given me. He had access to all of my Lloyds TSB accounts and confirmed that they had received the letter today from StepChange and that making token payments this month was OK. I was also told that StepChange would deal with a different department that would be involved in the DMP setup.

The whole experience was far from anything I had expected, and I hope that calls to the other companies tomorrow receive such fair treatment. I'm so glad I have never done business with Halifax.

Morning

Good news that you are going forward.

You don't 'have' to speak to anyone. One option is just to write to them. Often the quickest and easiest way is to simply cancel your DD. that usually kicks off an automatic letterasking for your payment with details of how to set up a new DD. Bingo, result!

Hope that helps

Well done on getting to this stage :T

I think you will find that most people would advise you not to speak to your creditors, especially if you owe money where you bank. When we were setting up our DMP, we had a lot of debt with Lloyds TSB and also a current account with them, we were advised by CCCS not to speak to them and also CCCS themselves stated they would not be contacting Lloyds TSB until all new banking, new DDs were set up and our salaries were safely in the new bank. CCCS delayed paying Lloyds TSB and also NatWest (similar situation) until the second month of our DMP when they received two months payment.

There are no hard and fast rules about creditors and their behaviour towards us. I would swap a Lloyds TSB account any day for a Halifax one. Lloyds have been a total PITA all the way through, yet HBOS were great from a few weeks in.

I think I was very lucky. Lloyds acknowledged my previous history of running the account without a problem and have left my 2 accounts unchanged - 1 was my main cheque account with a very big overdraft facility part used, the other a DDs and SOs cheque account with an overdraft facility that is rarely used except when I get my maths a few pound wrong. They left both in place with the remaining facility available to me. I almost felt guilty shift my banking to another bank as they were so reasonable

Of course, this could be the calm before the storm.

• Is your OD included in your DMP?

Something doesn't sound right here, Lloyds are leaving credit open to you and this shouldn't be available. The usual procedure is 1) for the bank to close the OD, i.e. withdraw the facility and pass it to collections, this should freeze the interest or 2) leave the existing overdraft in place but reduce it to the starting amount of the DMP and gradually reduce the facility each month as you pay it off.

Lloyds should know that you are not allowed access to credit while on a DMP, you may find that you have been given incorrect information.

Before I put the details in my post can I please ask that I dont get any 'told you so' 'you've been stupid' etc replies as I am very very much on the edge and really don't need it at this moment in time.

Thats out the way sorry!

Basically, I have been on a DMP with CCCS for 2 and a half years and due to various problems including my current marriage breakdown with 2 small kids and various other issues I have ended up running up debts with payday companies etc. CCCS agreed to add the rest a couple of weeks ago but somehow I completely forgot about the overdraft when I gave them the additional debts. I called them this morning to add the overdraft and they now say they are cancelling the plan.

Tbh, at this moment in time I would happily walk out of work and in front of the nearest bus but I cant do that to my kids. Yes, I know this is entirely my fault but trust me the debts are not due to a designer wardrobe or living the high life.

Essentially, here is my problem. I have called Payplan this morning and they are going to call me later this week to do a budget etc but should I tell them I was with CCCS? If they dont accept me on to a plan, to put it mildly, I am f@cked. Can anyone help please?
