  • sickasachip and TTFTM, i'm glad you like Skye. Its a lovely place and I try and get back as often as I can. Unfortuantely, theres not much in the way of jobs hence why i moved down South. Although sometimes I wonder if I'd stayed upo there I wouldn't have got drawn into so much debt. Well, who knows thats life eh?

Anyway, hope everyone is having a nice Wednesday :)

    Hi All.

I have just agreed a DMP with CCCS and sent back all paperwork and have written to all my creditors explaing the situation.

Feels good to finally be tackling my debts which are about £7000 in total. Have a couple of payday loans, a couple of short term loans, 2 credit cards and a store card.

My DMP payments are £259 per month and should be debt free in 20 months if all creditors agree to the DMP.

With a wife, 2 kids and one on the way, the debts were really getting me down and I didn't know about DMP's until I came here for advice so many thanks to this forum for that.

Most of my payments are due towards the end of the month so I am hoping the DMP will all be set up by then, but one loan payment is due this week. I have contacted them regarding the DMP and they have said they cannot accept the DMP until 6 months of payments have been made, which would be this months. I am hoping they will accept a small token payment for this month until the DMP is set up properly.

I am determined to get my debt under control by the time the baby comes in January.

Once again, many thanks for all the advice I have found here. :)

    Hi Stuart and welcome :hello:

Congratulations on taking the first and most difficult steps to becoming debt free :T

CCCS are fantastic and act as a superb "middleman" in paying our creditors but I always like to remember that the debts are ours, and hence keep a very careful eye on what is going on and making sure the CCCS totals are correct every month for those sneaky nasty creditors who still add the interest on

Please stick around as the advice, experience and support on this forum is second to none and it's also a great place to sound off when we are having a bad day ... and we all have them :o

Good luck and here's to a fast and painless debt free future for you and your family :)

I was talking to hubby last night about the DMP and we are now over the halfway hump of our DMP with a "mere" £63K left to pay ;-)) There was once I would have fainted at the thought of that much debt, but considering where we started on this DMP journey I feel like celebrating!

    :T

I think we should celebrate these victories. We all need targets to work towards and over half way there is an amazing achievement. Well done Amy and Mr V :T

We hope to get our debt into the £60 something thousands by the 25th of this month and I can't wait to post my new signature :j

We love Skye and actually pine for the island when we haven't been there for a while. It's a couple of years now and it will be a good while longer because we can't justify the fuel costs for the drive :(

Now I am thinking about that first view of the Cuillin which never ceases to excite us no matter how many times we have seen it. And the little ferry from Glenelg and going to see the brochs on the way. I want to go right now :(

Maybe I should think about getting bitten by midgies and then I will cheer up that I am actually at work in Manchester :rotfl:

  • hi everyone,

i wont bore you all with my story thats on another thread but basically i have suffered on and off with depression for years but a year ago it all came to a head and i hit rock bottom. i was in meltdown and in a lot of debt.

this site along with CCCS literally saved my life.

i am now a year into a DMP, have paid off just over 2k of my debts and at my review next month will be able to increase my payments by around £20 a month shaving a few months off my DFD.

i would love to be part of this wonderful community and i am feeling a lot stronger now although i do have my fragile moments so please bear with me and i will work hard to keep in regular contact.

Iwantafreshstart... I think you are in very good company here. I read Martin's write up on depression and debt and how they are very much intertwined.

Feel free to let rip in here...

Nice to have you on board and hope things are working out better for you :)

Yeah it's a good thing for us all. We're in a bad place but doing something positive about it :)

No-one wants plaudits but it's takes bravery to face up to our debts and deal with them. Glad you are feeling better about things. Hope it continues.
