Warning: BT "offers"

Not sure where to post this, but feel free to move.

Mum got a letter off BT yesterday, offering discounted phone rental with bundled free evening and weekend calls, so long as she signed up to 18 months with them...

Funny that this coincided with the fact that Easynet/Sky have just LLU'd her exchange! How coincidental, eh?

Anyone who falls for this "special offer for selected customers" is basically blocked from switching to LLU services for the duration of the contract...

BT have had this offer for a very long time now - I doubt its got anything to do with Sky LLU'ing the exchange.

However, their offer is only for voice calls, so you can still get broadband from Sky/Easynet if you want as they don't LLU the voice calls..

You can also still sign up to a CPS tariff like Sky Talk or Primus if you want.. the BT offer doesn't stop that either.

In fact, BT allow you to cancel if you signed up to their offer within the last 7 days..

I sure BT was rushing about in a panic coming up with a special offer just because your mums exchange had another LLU added to her exchange, just have to ignore the fact that the offer has been on the go for over a year now and that minimum terms are going to become a standard between line rental providers in the future.
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.
  • This offer is available to any customer who isn't already tied into any other similar line rental offer with BT..
