How to time switching providers?
I do that every year, and every time end up paying the standard tariff to my older supplier for a while. This time I switched through a comparison site yesterday. My present contract expires on the 26th. I have just received an email from my future new supplier (NPower) asking me to activate the online billing and saying they are working hard to make the switch happen.... It is from a "no-reply" address. I wrote to them but the site won't accept my messages (???) Will try phoning them tomorrow but in any case: can my present supplier fine me before the switch goes ahead, just for requesting it? Or if it happens ONE day before? Many thanks.

The losing supplier is not informed until the expiry of the "cooling-off" period. Then there is approximately another 4 weeks before transfer. So (assuming you are happy with a "deferred discount" tariff) nothing to worry about.0
