Road legal quad bike costs?

I found them terrible, You can either accelerate or steer, Trying to do both doesnt work.
Mostly off road mud tyres so poor grip on the road. Unless you get a decent one like the tried and tested
Honda's then it will be a bag of nails very quickly.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Falcon insurance or bikesure are the two main companies for insuring quads, a guy call grant at bikesure is really good. Try typing quadsuk into google and having a look through the forum there, loads of info.
I would stay clear of Chinese bikes, the engine arnt bad as they are mainly based on Honda developed units but the chassis and suspension are cheap and nasty, stick to the main jap makes if poss and if not a cheaper option would be quadzilla/RAM (Taiwanese not Chinese). If you only use it for a 4mile commute they should last for years with minimal work, they are designed to have a hard life off road, which is also a good reason to be careful when buying used.0 -

The proper switchable 4x4 models have front and rear independent suspension and the rear axl. e is not fixed so fine for both steering and accelerating at th same time.
Search Google or YouTube for "cf moto 500".Google gives you answers use it.........0 -

No it's not, nothing like it. Quad bikes are not designed for road use, or the continuous mileage that they do. They are designed for off road use. The ones marketed for on road use are usually poor quality and this is indicated by the price that they sell at.
The whole concept of a quad bike is that it is used off road, generally on soft ground.
My qualifications btw are the following, 20 years with the largest seller of quad bikes in the UK and I represented the company at one of the inaugural training courses in the early '90s, as the person who helped train the trainers that train people for the ATV (quad bike) qualification.
If you look at the major sellers of quad bikes (the big four Japanese), you'll find none of them have anything to do with road quads (unless it has changed in the last few years) and there is a good reason for that.
Most of the road quad importers don't seem to have a UK head office, but are sold through an ad hoc dealer network. There's a good reason for that. Lack of support (means no costs) and if there is an accident then you don't have a big company to take to court.
The people who have said give it a wide berth are the people giving the right advice.0 -

Pardon - What I probably should have said is (to the OP) "For your purposes..."
I don't have 20yrs sales experience or as an instructor of anything more advanced than Road Rash on the megadrive, tbh all I can say is that I grew up on bikes, quads, carts; Anything with wheels, a noisy blatty engine and the potential to hurt yourself.
When you get deep down, then yup you're right of course a quad will have many differences; Lower, more off road biased ratios & differently built gearboxes as I said above, their engines will liklely be in a difference state of tune, they will likely have variants of the "main" engine for that manufacturer/size bracket (such as the Rotax, or piggy's Leader engine to take 2 well known engines..), stuff like that.
What I was driving at, is that the OP was considering a quad as being basically a miniature car, which it is not; If you have to use a commonplace vehicle to compare it to, for reasons of engine-capacity, longevity etc.. use a motorbike as your comparison or nothing. (and if they have zero starting-knowledge of quads which appears to be the case, then they have to use *something* as a starting point - IMO, my way was just a bit more polite as the first reply to the thread)
That's the logical step I was trying to get them to take, not to imagine that manufactures simply take a bike off of production-line A, stick 2 extra wheels on it & call it a quad-bike.
(though with some of those all neon-plastic & chrome-effect Chinese ones on ebay it makes you wonder)

do you any local sellers for quad bike for chorley and preston areas0
-
There is a can-am main dealer in chorley, the bikes are very expensive thOugh, I mean you could get a nice car for the price of a quad in there.0

As mentioned above avoid those cheap chinese things, Mate bought one, He spends more time trying to get it to start than he does actually riding it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Get an Piaggio Mp3 LT. You can legally ride it on a car license (no need for CBT/Bike test), it will hold its value far better than a quad, and will almost certainly be faster than a quad from A to B.
I had one for a test weekend, and they are great fun, too. If I could afford to, I'd have a 400LT for Winter and keep my motorbike away from the ravages of winter.0 -
Hi all, new here.
My Quad Insurance has gone up and is coming up for renewal and I have limited mileage and pleasure only.
On this post you guys are talking about commuting and 12,000 miles.
Any advice on saving some money?
(I wanted to start a new forum post but couldn't work it out, sorry)0
