canceling talk talk services

i have phone and broadband with talk talk and my contract finished with them earlier this months... i will be getting a new number connection from o2 now and wanted to cancel tt completely...I have emailed them giving 30days notice but just didnt hear anything back from them... i got an automatic email back with a ref number and that they will contact be back within 24hrs but they didn't since last thursday...will this email be ok for giving then notice? i just don't really want to speak to any of their customer service staff as never had any good experience with them...anyone knows if this will be fine or i will have to call them and they will count the 30 days from the day i speak with them?

thanks

  • Depends on how it was worded. If it was "I'd like to talk about cancelling" then no. If it was "I hereby notify you of cancellation" then yes, they should. A customer may instruct cancellation by phone or in writing regardless of what the provider says though it is normally checked and followed up in case someone decides to get up to some mischief and pretend to be you to get your phone line cancelled.

What you're doing, though, having a "new line" is a bit odd, isn't that going to cost you £85 ("new line") more than it would have done migrating the line from Talk Talk even if that were possible (rather than cancelling and restarting) - are you really looking for someone to come round and fit a new master socket leaving the present one redundant?
