    I agree, there is a great deal of point in going abroad for an education. But it would make sense to go somewhere with a different language, and if at all possible to attend a world-class university.

    I'm not so sure about going somewhere with another language, I guess it depends on your course and your own personal language ability.

    Only for postgraduate students as far as I know. And to be honest, if you can get yourself a Fulbright scholarship you can probably get at least some university funds.

    Yes, I think that if you are going abroad to live you should be willing to learn the language, but that isn't really that easy for everyone. I couldn't go to, say, Japan and start to live and study there because my language ability is far too low to dive straight in, even if the teaching was conducted in English. I wouldn't know enough of the language to navigate my way through things like bank accounts, rental agreements, setting up utilities, or even having a basic conversation with the local students in their own tongue.

    Also, not all subjects have a good background in all countries. For example, if I was going abroad I'd probably only consider Canada or Australia, because that is where most of the good research for my interests is coming from. Although I'd be better off staying in the UK.
