Historic gas and electric prices?

Does anyone know where I can get historic Tier 1 and Tier 2 standard variable (at least) unit prices from the main suppliers? I would like to look back over at least 5 years to see how consistently good/bad various suppliers are, by looking at spreads between suppliers at points in time and average prices over time, rather than simply looking at spot deals available at this moment in time. Ideally these would be in downloadable form: split into Tier 1 and Tier 2 is v important. Thanks

I am not aware of any organisation who keeps such statistics. In any case it would be a massive data base required as there are thousands of permutations in the 10 areas with masses of tariffs.

It is also not just the Tier1 and Tier2 prices you need to consider. and these vary between the areas of UK. The Tier 1 allocation varies e.g. was 500kWh for BG electricity, 2,800kWh gas then 900/4572 - some have daily charges - others monthly. Then there are masses of discounts that can make a huge difference - dual fuel, payment method, prompt payment, loyalty bonuses etc.

For instance the cheapest overall tariff for many people a year ago was an Eon tariff that had quite high Tier 1/2 prices but huge discounts(around 40%).
