Hi chaps and chapesses.
I'd like some advice please on what car to buy!
In a few months time I reach the midpoint on the HP agreement on my '08 plate VW Golf. My plan is to take Voluntary Termination and give it back to Black Horse (they have already indicated that this is not a problem.)
Now, my plan is to get a cheap runaround for around £500-£1000 to last me around 6 months to a year. This is so I can use the money I have saved on the HP to service some other debts and save myself some money. After that time, I'd use the car in PX for something shiner (if possible) or otherwise scrap it and go in as a cash buyer.
My question to you is...what should I buy?
I'll be doing around 800-1000 miles per month (30 mile commute each way, mainly motorway).
Size is not important
as it is for me and my OH (no offspring), but can't be titchy tiny as I am a tall chap.
Something cheap on the insurance would be great as well, so I can save some more money.
If possible, I'd prefer diesel (although this is not essential).
Ta peops!

It is not the bullet with your name on it, rather the one addressed "to whom it may concern" that should worry you!

Brand doesn't matter, atvthat level you are buying purely on condition. Start looking at ads in supermarkets, free papers etc. and see what crops up.0

Yeah, look locally and see if anything pops up - old person too old to drive, long standing car being got rid of for health reasons, something like that.
I wouldn't set your heart on a diesel, at that price they really are going to be scraping the barrel. Petrols also tend to be a bit cheaper and more straight forwards to fix than diesels (and a repair bill or two IS a risk you take at the sub £1000 price point!)
That said, Peugeot 306 diesels go cheap and appear reliable
Perhaps a volvo S40?
Here's a search of cars within your price range and inside 60 miles of you for inspiration
Beware cars with warning lights showing - they're about to get a whole heap more difficult to get through an MOT.0
