Help with credit card debt

in Credit cards
Hi wondering anyone can help. I have a credit card from Barclay's I got the card when I was 18. I only applied because of a pushy sales person as I was unemployed at the time. although I stated on the application I was not working I was still given a card with £1000 limit. I payed the minimum payment on the card for a couple of years, but then could no longer afford to pay it so I stopped. As of late I have been receiving letters from various debt collectors for the amount due. Is there anyway around this as I am still not in a position to pay this debt or will I have to bite the bullet and pay it?
Any help will be much appreciated thanks.

you could totally ignore it and wait till they take you to court...not advised....or you could arrange to pay them monthly,or if you are now working and have some cash make them an offer of 50% of the debt..they may well accept0

If the cards defaulted it wont be building interest so make a payment offer, when I defaulted on my Capital One 3 years ago I offered to pay £20 per month untill clear and they agreed.
If you make them an offer they should accept it and if they dont just say its either this or nothing right now they'll probably agree with a 6-month review.0 -
Don't mean to be harsh, but pushy sales assistant or not YOU spent on the card, there is NO way around not paying it. We all make stupid decisions in life but what separates the wheat from the chafe is our manner in which we deal with our problems. Do whats been suggested and make them an offer- remember what goes around, comes around.0
