Hello folks. Im looking for sites to get ideas or templates for a new business venture. I don't need too many, maybe 50 max and as I'm just starting out cannot afford to spend a lot. Any ideas will be gratefully received. Many thanks:j

Use Word - and draw up your own and print them off - it will be far cheaper than paying someone to design a poster for you and print them.

can you give us a clue what the business venture is?

ie advertising one thing can be very different to another.

It's a psychotherapy business. I will be advertising in GP surgeries as well as public places. I need something professional but eye catching. Thanks.

Professional eh, best use word and your home printer then like others have recommended nothing screams professional than a bit of clip art and cheap white A4 paper.

Go and see your local sign shop, graphic designer or printers and see what they can offer you. Explain to them what it is you want to portray and them design you a professional logo and design for your poster.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
  • What are your computer skills like? Do you have any desktop publishing software?

If you want professional then you will need to pay professional, that is unfortunately how things tend to work. If you have reasonable PC & design skills it may be possible for you to create a draft and hand it over to a designer to polish and print which will save you a fair bit but the logo you may want to set aside a fair sum of money to have professionally created as it is something you're going to be using for a long time in many places.

Visit a few printers as their rates can vary enormously. Also, you may want to use one for a certain job and another one for a different type of printing. As an example my local Prontaprint is fabulous for A3 posters but they need to use a different machine for A2 and above and for that their rates are insane so I use another printer. Some are geared up for small print runs and some aren't.

When you get the logo designed make sure you own the rights to it, some printers might not like you using the designs they created elsewhere. You might also want to get a designer to do a general poster template for you where all you need to do is change the text to what you want, you may do promotions from time to time where you want to slightly tweak the text.

Using a professional print company is good for posters but I have a laser printer (currently £35 in Robert Dyas) that produces very sharp black & white images. This is perfect when I need to run off a quick sign or print out some forms and compared to the previous inkjet I had it's worth every penny.

  • I did mine myself on Publisher, with a bit of time and patience it IS possible to get a pretty professional looking advertising poster.
  • I've just had 2000 (A4, full colour, 2 sided 150 gsm) leaflets printed, folded and delivered for £130. Might help as a guide if you approach a professional printers.

Very best of luck with the new venture, I hope it does well for you.
I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions...
