Standalone PPI policies

Hi,

Last night whilst looking for some of my PPI information so i may submit a claim against Northern Rock i came across a bunch of letters, essentially a complaint with HSBC, from 2005 where i was complaining.

This was because at that time i had been paying for a stand alone PPI policy that did not actually cover me for Redundancy but only Sickness and Accident, both things i never needed as i pointed out to HSBC at that time once i discovered it.

I complained to the bank only at that time as i was not familiar with the FSO or whoever they will have been at that time. Is this something that in principal I could pursue now?

If so then i will look for proper dates and information but wanted to ask before wasting time.

Thanks

Nat

No. Its too late. When your previous complaint was rejected, you would have been given a leaflet about the FOS and the letter would have stated that you can refer your complaint to the FOS if you disagreed with their decision.

You get 6 months to to do that. If you dont do it within 6 months, then it becomes time barred.

The product you indicate it is sounds like permanent health insurance. Unlike PPI, this is nearly always set up on an advice process rather than sales process and has a much greater audit trail (factfind, needs analysis and suitability report). So, it is much easier to cover the backside of the adviser in the case of complaint. Usually, you need a provable failure to have occurred for those to be treated as mis-sales.

    Thanks Dunstonh

Saves me messing about then as only came across it by chance. Shame, it was a couple of thousand i think but you are right, it was from attending a bank and purchasing so i cannot recall how it was missold to me now (words from letter at that time, not in the sense of current claims)

Will sign that off to young and stupid...er stupider
