Correct me if I'm wrong but you're not a fan of Orange are you? As I've mentioned I've no other ISP to compare so what are typical Orange-related problems and I can see whether I've experienced it (but probably just thought it was normal).

What ISP would you recommend for use that doesn't include online gaming, movie downloads or similar? I was considering moving to O2 last summer but was bribed into staying with Orange for 4 months free and a "better" router.

    Thanks

Have to second macman's opinion re HORRANGE - Worst Customer disservices I've ever had the misfortune to experience - I moved to Plusnet finally, and, touching wood, I haven't had any issues in over 3 years (and I know they are owned by BT!). Much faster and more stable connection - and no billing issues (yet!):T
Problems in brief,I had with HORRANGE:-
    1. Took my second VOIP line away without informing me for a false reason and then couldn't/wouldn't restore the number.
    2. Lied about the speed I could get from my exchange - they had me on a fixed 2Mb service.
    3. When I finally left, ignored my use of the MAC, AND my letter/email of cancellation sent when the service had switched - tried to charge me for an extra month over and above the notice period- after only 2 months without chasing -THEY HANDED OVER TO DEBT COLLECTORS!!

Been with Orange (previously Freeserve / Wanadoo) for years for Broadband, currently paying £10.20 / month. With BT for phone, mainly just for line rental as majority of calls made by mobile.

Had a call from Orange offering Broadband and phone for £17.75 month and seems to be everything we're getting from BT at the moment, with a saving of £7-8 / month.

Anything I should be wary of with home phone from Orange?

    Thanks
If you are happy with Orange's Customer Service and their Broadband and have no faults on your phone line, then that sounds like a fair deal.
My only questions would be "Is there any change to your Broadband Ts&Cs?" ie. download limits, any traffic management etc. & "Does the deal tie you to any minimum contract?" eg. 12/18 months (just in case things go tits up!).
If the deal does tie you in, you might want to consider either of 2 Primus phone deals via homephonechoices.co.uk but they are both 12 month contract.
There's Primus Line Rental Saver at £6.79/month - no inclusive calls
or Primus Home Phone Saver at £7.99/month inc. evening & w/e calls to UK landlines.
You'll find reference to Primus and the homephonechoices deals elsewhere in MSE pages, but be advised Primus non-inclusive call charges go up on the 15th January.

if Orange's free included overseas calls is part of your decision on who to sign up with be very careful. I have just found out to my great cost that the calls are only free if you use Line 2 of the 2 lines they give you, routed through the Livebox, whatever that's supposed to mean. Being technically challenged/ordinary person I had no idea about this and merrily made calls of up to one hour thinking they were free, only to be charged for every minute. It's all there is the small print so they told me. I'll leave you to make up your own mind.

Yes you need to use the VoIP line to make the inclusive calls. You need to plug a second phone into the connection on the livebox to use this line.

Orange don't hide that you have to use the second line to get the free calls ...........:o

It's similar with my BT VoIP line. I have just inclusive weekend calls with my BT landline but, on the VoIP line, I have inclusive evenng and weekend calls and free call barring.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
