Landlord taking ages to return deposit

Just as a followup to anyone who finds this thread through a search:
The TDS agreed that the landlord had no right to withhold the deposit due to waiting for confirmation of gas and electricity.
The landlord did then attempt to make unfair deductions from the deposit which we disputed. After submitting my evidence to the TDS, the landlord wrote to them saying it was "No longer worth out effort to continue this" and refunded the deposit0 -

ps. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at some of these DPS dispute meetings. From what I read on here there are a lot of LLs who basically haven';t got a clue how things are done as a modern LL0 -
