Installing new meters - any cost to me?

Hello all,

I am keen to move my gas and electric to First Utility to save money.

They will install Smart Meters as standard to replace my old style meters, which I think has a lot of benefits. However I am concerned about what would need to happen if I changed my provider again moving from First Utility in the future. They would remove their meters and I would need new ones installed by a new provider.

I am aware that the utilities providers are replacing (somewhat slowly!) the very old meters themselves, but don't want to be lumbered with a bill for this if I do change provider again in the future.

Has anyone had any experiences of having to get a new meter put in when moving from First Utility or another provider? What advice would you offer?

Many thanks

Richard

The smart meter will be read manually if you changed back.
Lots of negative views on FU if you care to peruse the board further though.

Smart meters are good, but all the do extra really is read your meter for you. They will cause more hassle than they are worth, first utility have as much complaints as every supplier.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • First Utility - small supplier with more complaints than you'd expect....
