The banks typically only give goodwill payments nowadays. These are mostly for those that qualify under their financial hardship criteria or first time errors.

The FOS no longer consider complaints on the basis of unfair bank charges (as it says on the FOS website)

  • Hi,

I recently sent a letter to my bank asking to repay charges from 6years ago up to date. I mentioned in the letter that I was at that time in financial hardship and these charges did not help my situation and many ways led me deeper into it. I have now through hard work, focus and the help of family taking out a loan a few years ago fully paid off debt and am now in a financially sound situ.

The bank have to me with a form to assess "current situ"..i know on this basis they will decline my claim. My claim however is for years past and not current.

Does anyone have any suggestions around this?

That is where it will likely fall down as refunds are considered for those that are currently in financial hardship. Not those that may have been in the past.
