Why does it take soo long to switch?

I was on EDF OS7 which was due to run out on 31/12 and revert to the standard tariff  Did a uswitch comparison and went for EON (saveonline 11) back on 10th December. Emailed EDF on the same day to ask for the tariff to be maintained till the switch was complete and finally got a reply from them today (4 weeks later) to say they would hold the price till the end of January.

Fair enough, but EDF also said that to date, no application had been made by other suppliers to switch away.

Is it usual for a delay of 4 weeks before EON even start to think about processing your application?

I called uswitch and they confirmed they had passed the info on to EON.

It's a good job I got the extension, but it's going to run out at the end of the month, and then I have potentially the rest of the Winter on a standard tarrif.

Not good at all.. Is it just EON, or are they all the same?

    Hi cleudo,

It sounds like there is a bit of a delay here, to change suppliers fully this normally takes around 6-8 weeks but we should have received something before this.

Once the comparison sites has passed your details to us, we would set up an account and this would be in a cooling off stage (this is the time you can cancel the switch) this will last 14 days.

Then the account goes in to a registration confirmed status, once this stage is complete the account goes live and we start supplying from the live date.

I understand you have already contacted the switch site, did you confirm all the details were correct? meter serial numbers etc?

Have you contacted E.ON to see if there is anything on our system about the switch? It would best to have your meter serial numbers etc to hand.

If you need me to help further, just let me know.

    Helena :)

    Hi Helena,

stuck in the situation that USwitch say they sent the details, but E.ON cust support say they haven't received anything from them.

USwitch say they can't query it with you till 45 days have passed (23rd Jan).

Will I have to go through another 14 day cooling off period after that?

    Hi cleudo,

If they haven't sent the switch through to us, we won't have started the 14 day cooling off period at all yet.

If the process had begun we would have sent you a welcome letter and we would have an account for you on our systems even though this wouldn't be 'live'.

I do wonder if maybe we have been given the wrong details or something along these lines?

Did you give E.ON your meter serial number when you called to check the transfer? along with your full address?

You can send your details to me if you would like me to double check for you, just use the email address in my profile page.

    Helena :)
