Manky carpet in bedroom

Hi,

Hoping someone can advise. When we moved in to our current rented property, we noticed that the upstairs carpet was for want of a word, extremely old and thin (threads coming out at the edges) and even though we have tried to hoover it regularly it attracts dust like mad and gets dirty really quickly. It also isn't properly fitted.

We have kept quiet about it for a year as we didn't know whether it was an appropriate thing to ask the LL to replace. But because it is a bit of an eyesore, I was wondering if it would be reasonable to? The bedroom is really small so I think it would be fairly cheap, and I don't want a top of the range carpet, just something that is clean and will be fitted properly.

What do you guys think?

No harm in asking, especially if you are a good tenant and plan on staying in the property for a while to come.

If you don't ask, you don't get.

If they say no, maybe a decent sized rug to cover it would be a good idea, that way you can take it to your next property...

Good tenants are worth keeping happy. Are you a good.....?

Carpets wear out and need replacing periodically.

So ask. The LL will either say yes or no.

Do not just do it yourself though. If you chuck out his manky carpet and replace it yourself (without written permission) you could be laying yourself open to arguments later.

You could store it in the attic of course, and replace it when you leave?
