Barclays PPI Complaint

Hi All,

Just wanted some advice knowing how bad Barclays are.

I received a letter from Barclays on 10th November saying thats my PPI complaint had been upheld and the estimate is £11400, I did not need to fill in any forms and that someone will call me within 40 working days.

As per usual no one called me. I called them yesterday to be told that a letter was sent to me on 21/12/11 (which I have not received). I asked the person at Barclays to read me the letter and send another copy. Apparently the letter states the final figure is £11400 and cheque is being processed. I asked when will the cheque arrive and the customer service advisor said that it was all processed on the 21st December but could not give me a date when it should arrive.

Its great news on the PPI value, I am over the moon as it will go to a deposit we are saving to buy a house this year, but just a bit sceptical on how long this will take or its just a fobbing off tactic so I dont call them back for a while.

Thanks

With Christmas and new year holidays, we havent had that many working days since your letter on 21st. So, give them a chance.

It is not fobbing off. It is just the delay whilst it passes between departments with a lot of bank holidays in between.

  • Hi know how you feel got letter from barclays on 13th Nov called the this week after the 40 working days to be told they had sent a letter out on the 28th Dec (no sign of that in my post box)
same situation read the letter over the phone to me saying the investigation was finished and i would be awarded £11,718.80 which is great if it ever comes.

Does anybody know if I can get Barclays to now remove the default I had on this loan, the letter states they want to return me to a position as if i had never had the PPI so it only seems fair if they remve the marker.

In most cases the default information is not removed. The default is unlikely to have been caused by the PPI and most refunds are goodwill payments rather than upheld complaints. You can ask them if they will remove it but you are largely dependent on their goodwill on this basis.

  • Hey All,

I'm having slight trouble with Braclays

I put my claim in, in July last year, i received a letter on the 4th November stating that they would uphold my complaint and that i would be awarded (estimated) £2,953.55 (fantastic news) and that i should expect to hear from them within the next 40 working days - so i waited!

I called them on the 21st December and was advised that my final settlement had been worked out that very day and that a cheque would be posted to me for the sum of £2,953.54 (great).

I had a quick question about payment of said cheque so i called the the following day (22/12/11) and was advised that my case had been closed........oh wait the letter and cheque have not been sent out, its gone back for re-calculation and they will have to re-open the file!

I've been extremely patient with Barclays and left them alone, after all the money is a bonus to me, however i do feel i'm being messed about slightly - i relayed this to Barclays who said they fully understood - i asked how long it would take now, jokingly mentioning it would be another 40 days - they replyed it may well be! I told them i did not create this situation - they did so why am i being punished!

Just wait for us to contact you!!!!! arrrrghhhhhhh

I feel like im treading water! Does anyone know if they keep adding that magic 8% after the 40 days? has anyone else experienced this? and why has this happened???

    Hi All,

Just to let everyone know the outcome.

I emailed Robert Diamond on 18th Jan moaning that I had not received any information on my PPI complaint. I received a email the following day by Mark Bailey the Customer Relation Manager who said he will look into this form me. I then received another email on Friday to say that the cheque was posted on Thursdsay first class and he apologised for the poor service. I received my cheque of £11464 on Friday.

Emailing Robert Diamond is definatly the way to go as I got it sorted, now completey debt free and a nice lump sum in the bank for a deposit for a house later this year.

Thank you for all your help,
  • i was wondering if Barclays pay out, do they close your accounts?
  • Hi all,

Thought I may as well post in here sense my query/situation also relates to Barclays.

In short. I made. Claim little over 3 months ago. Last week I received a letter from Barclays basically saying they would refund the PPI fee and that the refund would be credited to my bank account.

All I needed to do was sign a letter then send it back to them. Happy days....

Jump forward a couple days and I thought I'd take a trip to the bank to put some monies into to my account. That's when I had noticed that Barclays had put just under 2k into my account...... The week before I had actually received my offer letter. It gets more strange..... The refund was supposed to be a tad over 5k!

I called up their PPI claims dept to see if they could make sense of what was going on. The person I spoke to clearly sounded confused. Was in able to explain why my account was credited before the offer letter was sent and why it was less than the amount quoted in the letter.

They went on to say that this would be looked into. This all happened on thursday I think.

I've not spoken to them since.... Hunk I'll give them a couple more days.

Perhaps someone on here could shed some light because I'm as confused as the person from the PPI dept.

I have little faith in the person who has overall responsibility for the PPI Dept:(

After emailing Bob Diamond to express my utmost dissatisfaction with the length of time his company was taking to investigate my complaint, I had my complaint upheld and redress paid into my account in 4 days. (Saturday) So far so good although the letter stated "in our previous??? letter we outlined that we have upheld your complaint and that we would contact you within 40 days with a breakdown of your refund.." No such letter was ever sent as I'd been told a few days before it was still being investigated!!!!

However what is more worrying is that there were several folded sheets with the offer letter.
As I am also awaiting a recalculation of redress on barclayloans paid out last October:mad: I thought great -2 successes in 1 envelope.

On closer inspection the calculations were for 6 loans and someone elses's bank account number. So I rang Barclays on Monday to tell them. Guy I spoke to seemed very unconcerned. I was told to "securely destroy them" ??? I asked if they wanted the details as someone would be wondering where their calculations were and was told that it didn't matter as if they(the complainant) wanted them , they would phone!!UNBELIEVABLE.
I asked if it was possible that my calculations had been sent to someone else by mistake and was reassured no as my case was still open:mad: I feel another email coming on

    Its all really strange.

The letter I was referring to (the one I received last week) is the one you're still waiting for. I received all of that stuff (full summary of refund and interest).... Could the bank albeit their dept really be capable of making such a mistake?

I think I had better give them a call tomorrow!

Im going to check the letter again.
  • Definitely the correct ref and account number on the letter.
